I knew Dickie since Avondale as we had classes together and played on some of the same sports teams growing up.  While we didn't run around alot together in high school, we became very good friends later.  Following a decade or more after graduating, Bunky Preston would invite people to El Paso to play golf and out of that was born a ritual of golf and fun in El Paso and Juarez every year.  Dickie would fly in from Houston just to see his old buddies and have a good time.  Golf was the least of his concern but having a good time was and that is where I got reacquainted with Dick.  Anyone that ever went on one of those trips can attest to the fun and craziness of which Dick and I, along with many others, were a big part of.  Upon Dick moving back to Amarillo, we started running together, along with a large posse of close friends, and we had the best times imaginable.  I am not sure how any of us escaped unharmed from that but it still remains as my favorite time in my life and for those who were there, I am sure they would agree.  Dick and I remained best of friends up until his passing last October.  Dickie will always be one of the best friends I have ever had and the memories of the fun we had together will be something special to me always.  I miss you partner and to quote from an old movie, "He was the best of us".
