I never really knew Jann at Tascosa - we moved in different circles. We became friends about 10 years ago on line. What I had missed all those years! Jann was a wonderful friend - kind, fiercely funny, intelligent and quirky in her unique way of engaging with the world. She was also a gifted writer and I cherish the fact that she shared her stories with me - wonderful sci-fi with humour and imaginative characters. I visited her home once in Fort Worth and she was a terrific host, kind and thoughtful. Although she had a hard life in many respects, she remained optimistic and determined to carry on without complaints or bitterness, forging her own path through life's challenges. Sadly, she rapidly declined due to health and cognitive issues and her close friends watched her disappear bit by bit, day by day. I will always remember her deep and caring friendship and am deeply saddened by her passing. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to get to know her.
Jann and I went steady our senior year at THS and beyond. I think I found her knee socks and dimpled chin irrestible. We spent hours in her room just talking and listening to her collection of LPs. My musical horizons expanded quite a bit. And many were the Saturday nights we spent catching the latest film followed by a Pizza Hut pizza and then sitting in my '62 VW bug in front of her parents house making out. Though we eventually parted ways I've held fond memories of our time together.
I met Jann at Sam Houston and we became friends when she accidentially squirted me with elmers glue. It was a "bond" that would see us spend many years in laughter, love of Beatles, Paul Revere & Raiders, Man from Uncle, Avengers (both wanted to be Emma Peel) and Star Trek. She was creative, funny and had a much too big heart that saw the best in everyone. Visiting her in the hospital as current memories failed, I could always get a laugh pulling memories and laughter from younger days. My prayer is for her to rest in peace with God's love.
Jann was like a sister to me. We met at our church youth group as kids and were buddies from then on. So many memories and funny stories ranging from the night we were baptized through double dating in high school ... and then we had to become adults...but she was always a kid at heart. From the shores of Lake Meredith to the beaches of Florida there was always fun. I will miss her smile and laughter so...even the times when she gently scolded me! Love ya sis.
